John is a long-time electoral and democracy reform advocate, supportive of a more level playing field for electing independent and third-party candidates. He sits on the board of the National Association of Nonpartisan Reformers (NANR), an umbrella organization for democracy reform.

He sits on the board of the National Association of Nonpartisan Reformers (NANR), an umbrella organization for democracy reform. He has actively supported a number of democracy reform organizations, including American Promise, FairVote, the Independent Voter Project, RCV Maine, Represent Us, and Unite America.

John has written articles on the topic of democracy reform for several publications. Active on social media with a significant following (@ElectBetterUSA).

Professionally, John is co-founder and Principal of Hanover Partners, a San Francisco private equity firm actively investing in U.S.-based manufacturing companies since 1994.

John and his wife Mary live in San Francisco with three children.
